Clinical genetics is an officially recognized medical specialism in the Netherlands. The VKGN is the Dutch professional scientific society of clinical geneticists. The VKGN has close ties with the Dutch Society for Human Genetics (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Humane Genetica, NVHG), the Dutch Society for Clinical Genetic Laboratory Diagnostics (Vereniging Klinisch Genetische Laboratoriumdiagnostiek, VKGL), and the Association of the Dutch Genetic Counsellors (Nederlandse Vereniging Genetisch Consulenten, NVGC)
The VKGN cannot respond to questions by patients on the possible genetic nature, diagnosis and treatment of their disorders.
